Google Pixel phones is giving this crucial battery feature Finally

Pixel phones vs to charge your smartphone to 80% and then unplug it in order to maintain the health of its battery. Doing it by hand, though, is a huge pain. For this reason, a number of OEMs permit you to restrict the charging capacity of your smartphone to 80%. Not Pixel phones, that is. That is set to change, though, as Pixels will soon include the eagerly anticipated battery charging restriction function.

Google Pixel phones A new Limit to 80% option was first noticed in Android 15 QPR1 and is located in Settings > Battery > Charging optimization, directly next to the standard Adaptive Charging. Unfortunately, this feature wasn’t included in the stable version of Android 15 (review) that was released last month for Pixel phones.

Fortunately, a Telegram user going by the handle @SlimRock has sent Android Authority several screenshots that demonstrate the feature on the stable Android 15 AP3A.241105.007 build. However, after updating to the most recent November build, neither Android Authority nor we were able to access the feature on our Pixel 8 Pro. It may simply be a phased rollout.

However, I find it incomprehensible that Pixels still lack this feature, mainly because practically all other OEMs do. For instance, “Optimized Charging” was added to OnePlus phones as early as 2020. The Charging Limit feature is the new name for the feature on OxygenOS 15.

However, this year’s Realme UI 4.0 brought the Wise Charging feature to Realme phones. Earlier this year, Samsung phones received it as a new “Battery Protection” function with OneUI 6.1. For years, Motorola has also allowed its users to benefit from the feature, which it refers it as “Overcharge Protection.”

Given that it’s a rather fundamental feature, it’s a little surprise to see the people who created Android itself arrive late to the party. Although I acknowledge that Google Pixel does not offer lightning-fast charging , as it ought to, and that users do not have to worry about the battery draining more quickly, this is still a pretty basic feature that all users may take advantage of. Particularly considering that Apple itself debuted the “Charge Limit” function with the iPhone 15 series.

Nevertheless, like the Google Pixel battery charging limit feature, we can only hope that more useful Android 15 features like Notification Cooldown and Adaptive Screen Timeout will eventually be available. Better late than never, as they say. It would be even better if they didn’t restrict it to the more recent Pixel phones (yeah, Apple, I’m talking to you).
