First Impressions of the Oppo Find X8 Pro: Penetrating Perfection

Oppo vs the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, or the Pixel 9 Pro would be your first three choices if I asked you to name the best smartphone with the best camera. Despite producing some of the greatest camera-focused smartphones with their Find series, I’m willing to wager that Oppo isn’t on your radar. I had the chance to test out the new Oppo Find X8 Pro, and these are my first impressions of the phone and its cameras after using it for a few after-hours adventures.

Style and Features Take a Tactical Turn

We have the Oppo Find X8 Pro in Space Black, and I was shocked to see that it lacks many of the design elements we have come to appreciate about the Find series’ earlier generations. The phone has contoured aluminum sides and a single sheet of matte black glass covering the rear. I wasn’t expecting Oppo to produce a phone with a stealthy appearance, but after using it for a few hours, I came to appreciate its design, despite the fact that it’s a little boring.

The phone’s large camera bulge enhances its cosmetics, and its simple design looks great. Any on-screen spy wearing a three-piece suit could probably pull it out of their pocket. Additionally, with its IP68 + IP69 certification for water and dust protection, it can easily keep up with their active lifestyle.

With its 6.8-inch screen and 215 grams of weight, the Oppo Find X8 Pro has a big footprint, but its rounded corners allow me to use it comfortably without pressing against my palms. I’m relieved that Oppo avoided using flat sides like the majority of modern smartphones. Looking around the smartphone, you can see the power and volume controls on the right, the alert slider on the left, and a capacitive camera button on the right.

I adore how Oppo has implemented the camera button, which takes rapid double-pressing to activate. Thus, the camera never turned on by accident while I was carrying it about or used it on a regular basis. When the phone is in landscape mode, it also functions as a zoom slider. And it makes sense because, in portrait orientation, the zoom controls are easier to reach near the bottom of the camera’s user interface.

Compared to a certain fruit-shaped company that also released a handset this year with a comparable feature, Oppo’s design team gave this more consideration.

A stunning 1.5k LTPO AMOLED display with a slight curvature on all four edges sits on the front. In addition to removing the unintentional touch problems that many curved glass phones experienced, this preserves the high-end appearance of those phones. Although Oppo was kind enough to include a screen protector with the phone, in case you were wondering, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection is also available.

When I watched Transformers One on the Oppo X8 Pro, it looked fantastic. The details were crisp and the colors were vivid. With HDR, the brightness can reach 4500 nits, and I don’t usually believe the claims made. However, because of the foggy weather in my city, I was unable to test it in direct sunlight, but in my real-world tests, the information on the display were clearly visible.

However, I was shocked by how loud the phone became when I turned up the stereo speaker arrangement to the highest setting when I got home. It didn’t seem necessary for me to use my Bluetooth speaker. Naturally, however, the most of the work here was being done by the bottom grill.

Images That Make You Want to Look Closer

The Find X series from Oppo is well-known for its cameras and design. It’s time to review the latter now that we have covered the former. The Oppo Find X8 Pro has four strong cameras on the back, just like the Find X7 Ultra.

Its Sony LYT808 50MP primary sensor captures high-quality images in both daylight and dark conditions. Compared to what you see in the viewfinder and the final image after shooting the picture, there is some overprocessing going on. However, the result is a picture that exquisitely captures every detail without being overly crisp. Expert handling is given to both the highlights and the shadows.

Its ability to record inside situations is evident, and the camera performs flawlessly at night as well. I spend a fair bit of time exploring Delhi’s famous sites at night, and the outcomes are self-evident. The final photograph looked fantastic, even though I thought it occasionally struggled to handle the exposure.

Next up is the 50MP ultra-wide lens, which has a field of view (FOV) of 120 degrees. Manufacturers frequently ignore this lens, which leads to variable and vague results. But in this instance, it is unquestionably not the case. As you can see from the pictures, there is color parity with the primary lens in addition to great detail even in low light conditions.

Naturally, the two telephoto lenses that allow for a 120x magnification are the main attraction. On the rear are two lenses: a 135mm Sony IMX858 50MP lens and a 73mm Sony LYT600 50MP lens. Taking close-up pictures of distant objects is incredibly fulfilling, and the X8 Pro’s cameras satisfied that desire for me.

Whether we are discussing daytime or nighttime images, they are able to capture a great deal of information. Some of the stunning photos I took with these cameras were unaffected by the cloudy conditions.

They manage highlights and shadows pretty effectively while maintaining the color science of the other two lenses. Although the exposure issues are still there, the dynamic range is spot on. However, a single glance at the 60x or even 120x scoped-in pictures will dispel any worries.

Undoubtedly, some AI processing is involved, but the caliber of the output speaks for itself. Here are a regular shot and a 120x shot to show you what the device’s 120x zoom looks like.

Nor is the 32MP selfie camera on the front a slacker. It takes pictures that look natural without using harsh skin-smoothing techniques. When taking portrait photos, it precisely positions the subjects. At times, I assumed it had cutouts of my face on the blurred background since the results were so beautiful.

Before I wrap up this section, I should point you that all cameras support Dolby Vision and can record in 4K at 60 frames per second. Although there was some noticeable noise in the movies I took with the Find X8 Pro because they were primarily taken at night, the footage was fluid and the post-processing preserved all of the details.

Got an A in battery and performance

The new MediaTek Dimensity 9400, the company’s new top CPU, is included with the Oppo Find X8 Pro. According to our initial thoughts, we also observed it in the Vivo X200 Pro small, and the performance is simply amazing. It comes with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage and 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. I performed a good number of benchmarks before I started playing various games.

The phone didn’t throttle much during the 15-minute CPU throttling test, which shocked me. Additionally, the phone only reached 35 degrees Celsius after meeting all the standards. However, you may view the remaining results below.

I started by playing some of my favorite games on COD Mobile. No matter how serious the situation becomes in the game, the phone maintains 120 frames per second when I played it at Medium + Ultra graphics. You can achieve about 50–55 frames per second by increasing the settings to Max + Max graphics, but you also get a really comfortable gaming experience.

I also played PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and similar to COD Mobile, the gameplay was fluid and the phone didn’t even perspire. With Smooth + Extreme settings, I achieved 90 frames per second, and with the Ultra HDR option, I achieved about 45 to 50.

Next up was Genshin Impact, where the Dimensity 9400 effortlessly achieved 60 frames per second. The frame rate occasionally dropped to 50, but it eventually rose to 60 because I had the visuals set too high. I did receive a respectable 60 when I turned down the graphics, but it is impressive how well this processor can manage such expensive games.

Apart from gaming, the new ColorOS 15 based on Android 15 also contributed to the overall fast, snappy, and fluid daily experience. Both the RAM management and the app’s animations are quick and well-optimized. I spent a good thirty minutes adjusting the phone’s appearance to my preference thanks to the new lockscreen customization features.

I also experimented with their new AI capabilities, such as the writing tool that helped me quickly compose some critical emails, the summary option that allowed me to quickly summarize certain articles for study, and, lastly, their AI studio for some fun after work. Overall, I had one of the greatest ColorOS experiences to date with the new software. I also hope that some of the older Oppo phones will be able to take advantage of these AI functions.

Last but not least, the Oppo Find X8 Pro has an unexpectedly enormous 5910mAh battery. During my two days of use, draining to zero became a chore. Even after being used for games, benchmarking, and photo samples, the phone was ready to unwind. Depending on how much you use it, the phone should last you between one and a half and two days. Additionally, it should be quickly recharged with the included 80W charger.

The Oppo Find X8 Pro: Stunning Design with an Amazing Camera

I stopped trying to find the ideal phone a long time ago. Whether it’s the software, performance, camera, display, or design, there is always one or the other. But when compared to other phones I’ve tried or used in the past, the Find X8 Pro almost seems ideal. I’m reminded of the OnePlus 3T from Oppo’s sibling brand by its elegant and covert matte style. The cameras and display are almost flawless. And for someone like myself, there are plenty of performing opportunities.

This device has so many positive aspects that I am unable to single out one. However, the first thing that comes to mind when I have to choose one is the cameras. I already see me carrying them as my primary shooter; they just need a little tweaking. However, the Oppo Find X8 Pro, which retails for 1,199 euros, is still the greatest flagship smartphone available and establishes a standard by which I may evaluate future flagships.
